We all slathered on the sunscreen, created handmade sunshades, and sped down the motorway to Piha after church last Sunday! James accompanied us and we ran into Mirko, Pablo, & Sergio while we were there! The boys raced off into the ocean to see if they could flail their way into an episode of "Piha Rescue," which was being filmed that day, while Chloe and I browsed beachside. A really enjoyable afternoon. I love, love, love this weather!
On Saturday, Mike & I headed out to the Waitakere's for another hike. We took our fellow Los Angelean, Matt, with us and the visitor's center pointed us to another great hike over near the beach at Piha. I've never been on so many easy hikes with such great rewards! After only hiking for 30 minutes or so, we got to this great waterfall called KiteKite. The benefits of hiking here this time of year are having the trail to yourself and plenty of rainfall to stoke this waterfall up!
Piha is known for its dangerous surfing. They even do a show here called, "Piha Rescue." I'm hoping Mike will choose to surf on the East coast where the waves are a bit calmer. Doesn't look too intimidating in this photo, though, does it! These surfers are out of their gourd condsidering how cold the water must have been!
